Introduction

Thank you for your recent request for information on our electrical course.

Electrical course leading to the ultimate qualification, C&G 2391 Level 3

· We are a City and Guilds approved training centre.
· Interest free payment option
· The training centre is owned by us and is over 5.000 square feet
· All qualified staff are employed by the company
· Career search for job search & support
· Self employed start up package

Training carried out whilst you carry on with your present career. This will take anything from 6 to 18 months (we won’t insult your intelligence with a “get qualified in 4 weeks course”)

The first 4 modules each contain 100 hours of distance learning/home study; this is followed by 1 week at the training centre per section.
You will do all your practical installations as well as inspection/testing and fault finding here
On completion of the 4 sections you will have gained the following industry recognised qualifications.
Essential Electrics-C.I.T.B
C&G 2381 (16th edition)
C&G 2377 (P.A.T. Testing)
CSCS site Safety JIB Certificate
HSE (First Aid)
EAL Domestic Installer part 2

This will then enable you to register in a Part P scheme and work in the industry either employed or your own business.

Section 5
You will then be supplied further study materials and gain some valuable practical experience before returning to the centre for a further week to complete City and Guilds 2391 and take you up to level 3 qualification.

You will need commitment and determination to complete all the training but of course the rewards are excellent for a fully trained electrician. Since the introduction of Part P certification every builder, plumber, air-conditioning engineer, heating engineer, kitchen fitter, conservatory installer even alarm installers will no longer be able to complete electrical work. Add to this the new P.A.T testing legislation (compulsory portable appliance testing in businesses) and proposed home buyer’s reports you can imagine the demand for electricians will only grow.

Then of course there is the day to day work of the electrician new build, refurbishment work, house re wires and the endless list of smaller but profitable jobs.
Inspection and testing (now legislation on public buildings) is another huge growth area.
Have you noticed that even B & Q is now selling solar panels and windmills, as gas gets more expensive can you see the way things will develop?

Cost for the course is £5995.00 this includes V.A.T, All training, workbooks, Materials used, exam fees, tool kit and the services of Career Search.
At section 5 there is a fee of £200 for C&G registration/exam.

If you require any further information or just a chat about the possibilities please give me a call.

Electrical Course

New Career Skills Ltd.
Electrical Installer
New Entrant Route

DESCRIPTION
A comprehensive blended learning training programme structured in such a way, that with or without any prior knowledge, participants will be guided from a standing start to a level of understanding which is comparable to many time served electrical installation engineers who already enjoy the benefits of working within the electrical industry.

WHO IT’S FOR
Specifically for Mature Career Changers who wish to seek gainful employment in the electrical industry as a Electrical Installer, either in a self-employed capacity or with an electrical contracting firm.

With all due respect this programme is not for everyone. The content of the course is challenging both technically and practically. Candidates should be aware that despite their pre-completed stage assessments there will be some degree of theoretical input during their “practical” weeks of attendance.

At the risk of stating the obvious, and for health and safety reasons candidates must be prepared to undertake a basic colour-vision test prior to being accepted onto the programme.

AIMS

The aim of the program is to provide candidates with the theoretical understanding and practical skills to work in a safe and responsible manner within the electrical installation industry, training them to a standard that together with the required Membership of one of the Regulatory Bodies, they will be able to certificate their work in compliance of the ‘Part P’ document for Electrical works, under current Building Regulations.

DURATION & SUPPORT
The programme comprises nominally 400 hours theory work delivered in four ‘bite sized’ modules of approximately 100 Hours each, plus four weeks of combined practical and tutor led theory at our specialist training facility. The Training Centre attendance elements are delivered in 4 x 1 week modules. Theory elements are delivered through self-study with candidates having access to distance learning support from a specialist electrical technical support team. This technical support will be available throughout the programme via telephone or e-mail.

THE TRAINING PACKAGE
Candidates will be provided with a comprehensive technical training manual, which is sign-posted to a series of industry-recognised publications, which are also supplied.

The comprehensive library of referenced, structured reading materials provided includes:

§ BS 7671 16th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations
§ CITB course study notes in relation to the 16th Edition
§ The IEE on-site guide
§ Electrical Installation Work “Brian Scaddon”
§ Code of practice for In-service Inspection & testing of portable appliance testing
§ CITB Essential Electric’s
§ The electricians guide to the Building Regulations

In addition to the technical training manual, candidates will also be issued with a separate series of combined multiple choice question papers and written assignments to complete.

In preparation for practical weeks one, two and three, candidates must complete three TMA’s followed by two written assignments in readiness for week four.
Candidates will be provided with feedback to their TMA’s at each stage in response to their stage tests sign-posting them to the correct sections of the appropriate reference materials that they need to re-study.

The outcome of the stage theory assessments will be fed back to candidates in the following manner:

Fail: percentage result <> 85%

QUALIFICATIONS AND OUTCOMES GAINED

Consisting of no fewer than seven industry recognised qualifications certificated by City & Guilds, CITB, and recognised by the HSE. The qualifications, which will be gained upon successful completion, are as follows:

Please note the aforementioned qualifications on offer are true and correct at the time of going to print. They may be subject to variation dependant upon industry requirements.

QUALIFICATION AND ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS
Each of the aforementioned qualifications have their own prescriptive assessment requirements however in certain instances core competencies are replicated, common sense will however prevail and candidates will not be expected to duplicate assessment tasks, due to this “commonality” approach, the majority of the qualifications will not be concluded until the end of weeks 3 & 4.

Whilst candidate’s weeks of attendance on 1, 2 and 4 will have a bias proportion of practical training and assessment, week 3 will be more theory based including City & Guilds / EAL on-line assessments.
Each of the required assessments will need to be conducted during candidate’s weeks of attendance at our dedicated training and assessment facility.

In brief the assessment requirements are as follows:

Essential Electrics – CITB Certificated
This qualification requires candidates to demonstrate both theoretical and practical competencies in the following areas:

§ Electrical Concepts
§ Safe Isolation
§ Test Instrumentation
§ Electrical Regulations
§ Supply Systems

Consisting of 60 questions candidates are allowed two hours to complete this open book on-line multiple choice question paper.
Due to our specialist GOLA facility, having concluded their on-line assessment candidates will be “logged off” as such, we then will “log on” as the administrator and immediately have access to their indicative results.

City & Guilds will automatically issue successful candidates with a full certificate, which may take up to three weeks.

Electrical Portable Appliance Testing - (C&G 2377)
Whilst this qualification is awarded on the successful completion of both theory and practical assessments candidates will be assessed theoretically via the GOLA system. Our centres City & Guilds accredited assessors will sign-off successful candidates for the practical component.

The theory exam consists of 30 multiple-choice questions for which candidates are allowed one hour. City & Guilds will automatically issue successful candidates with a full certificate, which may take up to three weeks.

CSCS Site Safety cards
The site safety card assessment is delivered as an on-line multiple choice assessment process comprising of 30 questions. As described this is required to demonstrate safety competence in a site environment. Whilst this qualification is not required for
candidates to operate in domestic premises it will allow candidates to operate on construction sites, if required.

Appointed Persons 1st Aid - HSE recognised
This one-day program is delivered as combined training & assessment process, which concentrates on emergency first-aid procedures.
This programme is recognised by The Health & Safety Executive.

EAL certificated Domestic Installer Scheme – (EMTA Awards Limited)
This qualification is possibly the most onerous of the suite of awards on offer requiring candidates to demonstrate both theoretical and practical competence in no fewer than seventeen areas. Due to the volume of assessments required this particular qualification will be drip-fed to candidates over the four-week period.

The areas of competence for assessment are as follows:
1. Applicable Building Regulations for Domestic Electrical Installation.
2. Electrical Safety Legislation, Regulations Standards and Terminology.
3. Domestic Electrical Installation – Pre work Survey/inspection.

Whilst the majority of the theory assessments are administered and marked within centre, Unit 1 of this qualification is delivered as an on-line assessment procedure.

This particular qualification is recognised and endorsed by the following bodies:
ELECSA - Electrical Contractors Association
NICEIC - National Inspection Council of Electrical Installation Contractors
Summit Skills

Certification is awarded via EAL (EMTA Awards Limited). Having successfully completed all seventeen units candidates will be recommended for certification, processing via the EAL may take up to six weeks. A credit card sized record card sporting the holder’s photograph will accompany the resulting certificate.

* Level 3 Certificate in Electrical Inspection, Testing and Certification of Installations – City & Guilds 2391
Finally, on all enrolments, students will automatically move on from the City & Guilds 2381, 2377 and EAL “Part P” to City & Guilds 2391 Level 3.

Additional Course Guidance Notes and Tutor Marked Assignments for submission and verification will then be sent out, followed by an additional requirement for an extra 4 days of in centre training. The City & Guilds 2391 exam can only be taken on certain dates in the year. These dates are preset by the City & Guilds Examination Board and are not moveable.

This final phase of the training scheme is aimed at those who, on completing their earlier training, have then gained practical experience of inspection and testing of their own LV electrical installations, and who may require a further degree of certification, possibly for Regulatory Body purposes.

This qualification is a valuable additional accolade to the earlier qualifications already gained, however it is not suitable for beginners. This will be a demanding phase of your training, and we recommend that all students get 3 to 6 months work experience before commencing the City & Guilds 2391 part of the course. In addition to the relevant practical experience, delegates must possess a good working knowledge of the technical requirements of BS 7671 to City & Guilds 2381 certificate standard, previously gained in earlier modules.

THE VENUE
Whilst your distance learning is obviously undertaken in the comfort of your own home you will need to travel to attend your four one week “practical” sessions.

Our own Specialist City & Guilds accredited training facility is situated near motorways. We appreciate that a certain number of candidates will require overnight accommodation, and to this end we have sourced and vetted a number of local B&B establishments ranging from £23 per night.

Training will be delivered to maximum group sizes of twelve with practical training sessions being undertaken in bespoke bays for each candidate. Our training centre also houses our Global On-Line Assessment suite (GOLA), which allows candidates to attempt their City & Guilds assessments via web-link. The main benefits of the GOLA assessment process is that candidates may be pre-booked at a convenient time and date, as well as candidates having access to their C&G results usually within an hour of sitting the exam. The traditional paper-based results can take up to six weeks to process.
